Coast tops Cuyama Valley in basketball

The Coast Union boys basketball team improved its Coast Valley League record to 2-0 with a 55-33 win Thursday, Dec. 18, at Cuyama Valley.

Riley Kennedy led Coast Union with 16 points, Auggie Johnson popped in 15 points, and Sam MacKinnon added 14. The big burst for the Broncos was in the second quarter, when they outscored the Bears 20-10.

The next home game for Coast is 6:30 p.m. Jan. 8 against CVL foe Valley Christian Academy.

Girls

Emily McAvoy led the way with 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Coast Union girls basketball team won 38-15 on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Cuyama Valley. Reagan Kniffen chipped in with six assists and eight points; Ashley Martinez also had eight points for Coast Union.

Coast Union’s defense was so stout that the Bears did not score a single point in the third quarter, according to coach Michael McAvoy, substituting for head coach Bobby Youngs, who had another commitment that night.

Coast returns home Jan. 8 to face Valley Christian Academy at 5 p.m.
