Coast Union girls close in on Coast Valley League basketball title
Coming into this week, Coast Union’s girls basketball team was 8-0 in Coast Valley League play, having crushed seven CVL opponents by lopsided scores — including home defeats over Maricopa on Jan. 30 (61-14) and Cuyama Valley (55-14) on Feb. 2.
In the Maricopa game, junior Kaylee Ferguson led the team with 17 points. Senior Meg Stern had 12 points, and three players had eight points each: sophomore Ellie Kennedy, junior Karis Lawson, and junior Bella Raethke.
In the Feb. 2 game against Cuyama Valley, Lawson led the Lady Broncos with 17 points. Ferguson and Stern each contributed a dozen points; Kennedy added 10 points; and Raethke had four points.
The team finishes its regular season this week with two games on the road – at Valley Christian Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 6 and at Coastal Christian on Feb. 9.
