A roundabout is coming to this busy Highway 46 intersection

People traveling between the North Coast and North County via Highway 46 West should allocate some extra time for the trip over the pass.

Crews hired by Caltrans will start construction Monday, June 15, on a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 46 and Vineyard Drive west of Templeton, according to a news release from the state road agency. The release didn’t include an expected completion date.

The work include one-way reversing traffic control Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Delays aren’t expected to be longer than 15 minutes, Caltrans said.

Drivers have had to adjust to traffic-flow restrictions at the intersection of Highway 46 and Vineyard Drive since 2017. That’s when a four-way stop with flashing beacons on Highway 46 West was installed as an interim measure, following a history of vehicle collisions at the busy intersection.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
