Couple found dead in Atascadero was murder-suicide, police say
Atascadero police have confirmed that an elderly husband and wife died in a murder-suicide on Saturday.
Police Cmdr. Joe Allen said Tuesday that Doris and Kenneth Casad, 87, were the two people found dead in an Atascadero home in the 5400 block of Dulzura Avenue early Saturday afternoon.
Each died of a single gunshot wound, Allen said.
He added that the couple’s adult son was visiting them at the time, left briefly and discovered their bodies when he returned.
The investigation into the incident revealed that Doris Casad was in failing health, Allen said, and that likely played a role in the murder-suicide. Allen said it appears as though Kenneth Casad shot Doris a single time before turning the gun on himself.
The investigation into the incident is complete, and Allen said no other people are believed to be involved.
