Person reportedly killed in rollover crash on Hwy. 101 in SLO County
One person was reportedly killed in a rollover crash late Tuesday night on Highway 101 near Pismo Beach.
A fatality was reported after a vehicle rollover caused a pickup truck to lie on top of a car, according to the SLO County News Facebook page. KSBY reported that the driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead, while a driver and occupant of the car had minor injuries.
Crash details were also shared on the California Highway Patrol’s traffic incident report page late Tuesday into early Wednesday, but details on the fatality were not on the page. A request for comment from CHP representatives was not immediately returned.
According to the CHP page, a black Toyota Tacoma truck was on top of a gray BMW sedan, and the vehicles blocked the No. 1 lane. Debris was also strewn across all lanes of the highway, according to the page.
Caltrans responded to the scene and upgraded the incident to an expanded traffic collision on Pulsepoint at 11:58 p.m., 44 minutes after the crash was reported on the emergency response app.
Southbound traffic was diverted off at San Luis Bay Drive onto Ontario Road, CHP said in a post on X.
All roadways reopened at 2 a.m., according to CHP.
No further information was shared concerning the fatality of the crash as of Wednesday morning.
