A portion of Highway 101 near Pismo Beach was closed late Tuesday night after a crash left a pickup truck lying on top of a car.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic incident report page, a vehicle rollover was reported on southbound Highway 101 at San Luis Bay Drive around 11:05 p.m.

A black Toyota Tacoma truck was reportedly on top of a gray BMW sedan, and the vehicles were blocking the No. 1 lane. Debris was also reported across all lanes of the highway.

Caltrans responded to the scene for an extended closure of the road, diverting southbound traffic off at San Luis Bay Drive onto Ontario Road instead, the CHP said in a post on X on Tuesday night.

It was not immediately clear how long the closure would last.
