Prescribed burn brings smoke to SLO County. Where’s the fire?

A prescribed burn in San Luis Obispo County brought large amounts of smoke to the area.

The fire was reported on Sunday at 5 p.m. by the Prescribed Fire Information Reporting System and burned 37 acres east of Santa Margarita, according to Watch Duty.

Cal Fire on Monday was burning 23 acres to reduce wildfire risk and enhance oak woodland habitat, according to a news alert on Pulsepoint.

Smoke from the prescribed burn was visible from Highway 101 and surrounding areas, the alert said.

Two other prescribed burns were also taking place in SLO County, including the Girardi prescribed burn that burned 72 acres and a fire in the area of Turri Road and South Bay Boulevard in Los Osos, according to Watch Duty.

No information about when the prescribed burn would end was provided as of Monday afternoon.
