Traffic stalled for hours on major SLO County road after crash downs utility pole
Traffic was stalled for hours on a major San Luis Obispo County road after a car slammed into a power pole late Sunday night.
Around 9:53 p.m. Sunday, a Tesla hit a utility pole on Los Osos Valley Road near Turri Road in Los Osos, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Traffic Incident Information page.
The crash — which resulted in a minor injury — caused live power lines to fall across the roadway, CHP’s San Luis Obispo office said on X around 4 a.m. Monday.
The state road agency urged drivers to access San Luis Obispo by taking South Bay Boulevard to Highway 1 while Los Osos Valley Road remained blocked.
By 9:30 a.m. Monday, cars were backed up by more than a mile on the major roadway, CHP said, resulting in “very angry” complaints about the traffic build-up and lack of traffic control in the area.
Los Osos Valley Road was originally slated to be reopened by 8 a.m., but CHP later estimated PG&E would need several more hours to complete repairs.
The new estimated reopened for the roadway is 2 p.m., CHP said on X.
“If you take LOVR to Turri Rd expect major delays due to construction on South Bay Blvd,” the agency said.
