CHP identifies man killed in fatal car crash on Highway 46 in SLO County
The California Highway Patrol has identified the male passenger killed in a head-on crash Sunday morning on Highway 46 West in an unincorporated area of San Luis Obispo County.
A 21-year-old man and resident of Cambria, Oscar Pena Estrada, was driving a gray Ford Mustang at an unknown speed on the route, according to a CHP news release Monday. At the same time, a 62-year-old man and resident of Ellisville, Missouri, Dean Carl Voigt, was driving a white Ram 2500 with a camping trailer in tow.
Both drivers were driving at unknown speeds, the release said. Estrada’s Mustang traveled to the opposing traffic lane directly into the path of Voigt’s Ram and collided head-on. A 29-year-old passenger in the Mustang, Cesar Pena Estrada — also of Cambria — died at the scene.
Voigt and a passenger in the Ram had minor injuries. Oscar Pena Estrada had major injuries and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence, the release said. He was transported to Adventist Health Sierra Vista hospital for treatment.
The head-on car crash is pending further investigation by the CHP, according to the release.
