A portion of Highway 101 was closed in Pismo Beach late Monday night after a semi-truck crashed into construction equipment along the road.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic incident page, a big-rig hit the large arm of a piece of granite machinery just after the Price Street off-ramp around 10:10 p.m.

The semi-truck sustained major damage in the crash and diesel fuel began leaking onto the road.

A hazmat response was called out to the scene to deal with the leak, which was in both the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes, according to the CHP log.

All southbound lanes of the highway were closed due to the emergency response, and drivers were told to expect “major delays” while the work was ongoing, the CHP said in an X post Monday evening.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

Meanwhile, a second semi-truck incident was reported soon after the Pismo Beach crash on Monday night.

According to the CHP’s traffic log, a produce truck was a traffic hazard at Riverside Road and Division Street near Nipomo around 10:28 p.m.

The vehicle, which was loaded with 38,000 pounds of product, was blocking the curve of the road, according to the CHP log.

CHP was attempting to secure a tow truck to be able to move the vehicle out of the road as of late Monday.
