A San Luis Obispo garage fire sent a resident to the hospital on Friday morning.

The fire was reported at 9:57 a.m. on Luneta Drive between Verde Street and South Tassajara Street, the emergency response application PulsePoint said.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a single-story detached garage with a moderate amount of smoke and fire coming out of the side, according to discussion on emergency radio.

One person was sent to the hospital in an ambulance, San Luis Obispo Fire Department emergency manager Joe Little told The Tribune.

Little did not know the extent of the person’s injuries, he said.

The fire was related to lithium ion batteries being stored in the garage, he said.

A regional hazmat team was heading to the scene of the fire to assess the condition of the batteries and decide how to dispose of them.

The fire was extinguished by 10:45 a.m., but firefighters will remain on scene for a few hours for mop up.
