An Atascadero elementary school went on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after police received a report of a possible unidentified individual wearing a mask on school campus.

Out of an abundance of caution, school staff initiated lockdown procedures while officers arrived to the scene, set a secure perimeter around the campus and began a search of the area, according to the release.

Following a comprehensive sweep of the campus, no individual matching the reported description was located, according to the release.

The campus was cleared, and the lockdown was lifted at around 12:47 p.m., though officers will conduct follow-up interviews at the scene as part of standard protocol, according to the release.

No injuries were reported during the incident, according to the release.

“The safety of students and staff is a top priority,” the release read. “APD appreciates the quick actions of school staff and cooperation of students during the incident.”
