New retro-inspired gas station opens in SLO County. Take a look
A new gas station has opened in Atascadero, offering a vintage-inspired fill-up for local and highway drivers alike.
The Coastal Pit Stop, located at 1860 El Camino Real between the Home2 Suites and Taco Bell, entered its fifth day officially in business on Monday, according to acting manager — and the owner’s son — Harneet Cheema.
The station, which provides 76-brand gas, features an array of 12 pumps, including six diesel, as well as a car wash and an indoor mini-market. It’s located right off of Highway 101, making it an easy stop for drivers passing through.
Cheema said things were still getting up and running on Monday as part of its soft launch.
“We’re kind of just getting all the kinks straightened out before we have, like, a proper grand opening,” he told The Tribune.
Cheema said he and his father hope the station, with a backdrop of retro Googie architecture featuring large, red and yellow angles and shapes, will become a pit stop and meeting place for vintage car clubs in San Luis Obispo County.
The plan for the gas station has been in the works for years, Cheema told The Tribune. The business was originally planned to open in September, The Tribune previously reported.
Cheema said the station had already received steady traffic in its first few days.
“Definitely better than you would expect for ... just being open for five days,” he said. “Obviously, it’s not the levels that we want it to be on ... when we’re up and running at 100%, but, yeah, it’s been good.”
