In San Luis Obispo County, waste removal companies observe a number of holidays by giving trucks and drivers a break.

Which holidays delay trash pickup in SLO? Morro Bay?
San Luis Garbage, a subsidiary of Waste Connections, handles garbage, recycling and organic waste collection in the city of San Luis Obispo.
The city of Morro Bay partners with another Waste Connections subsidiary, Morro Bay Garbage, for trash collection.
Waste Connection also operates South County Sanitary and Mission Country Disposal, which handle garbage pickup in other parts of the county.
According to its website, Waste Connections observes only one holiday in 2026.
“We pick up all holidays except Christmas Day,” Dec. 25. San Luis Garbage said on its website.
Trash pickup will be delayed by a day, according to the company’s website.
However, Waste Connections offices will be closed on these holidays:
- New Year’s Day: Jan 1
- Memorial Day: May 25
- Independence Day: July 4
- Labor Day: Sept 7
- Thanksgiving Day: Nov 26

In 2026, the waste removal company does not offer collection services on the following days:

If your regular trash pickup day falls on one of those holidays, collection will be delayed by a day.
Which holidays impact waste collection in Paso Robles?
Paso Robles Waste and Recycle closes in observance of four holidays in 2026:
- New Year’s Day: Jan 1
- Independence Day: July 4
- Thanksgiving Day: Nov 26
- Christmas Day: Dec 25
Customers can expect trash collection to be delayed by one day.
San Miguel Garbage only observes two holidays: New Year’s Day and Christmas Day.
If your regular trash pickup day falls on either of those days, you won’t see the garbage truck until the following day.
When are landfills closed for holidays?
SLO County has three landfills where residents can drop off large, bulky items including appliances, scrap metals, mattresses, and tires.
All landfills accept e-waste and have household hazardous waste collection sites.
According to the Waste Connections website, Cold Canyon Landfill in San Luis Obispo will be closed on the following holidays in 2026;
