Juvenile crashed car into SLO County liquor store then fled the scene

A juvenile crashed a car into Appy’s Liquor Store in Paso Robles on Thursday morning — then fled the scene.

At about 7:41 a.m., the Toyota drove over a parking block then hit the wall facing Spring Street, Paso Robles Police Department Sgt. Reid Goeckner said.

Appy’s Liquor Store owner Chad Maklous said he was surprised by the crash.

“The car came from nowhere,” he told The Tribune.

When the Toyota hit the building, the force of the crash pushed the wall forward by about 3 centimeters, Maklous said. The crash also damaged the ice cream machine, which is no longer working, he said.

A building inspector will evaluate the extent of the damage, he said.

The driver fled the scene without speaking to anyone at the store, he said.

Police later found the suspect and got their information. No one was arrested, Goeckner said.

Appy’s Liquor Store remained open on Thursday after the crash. The store is located at 2816 Spring St.

Maklous thanked the community for their support and said he was grateful no one got hurt.

“Thank God everybody is OK,” he said.
