Pickup truck slams into popular SLO County pizza restaurant
A pickup truck barreled into Palo Mesa Pizza in Arroyo Grande on Monday morning, causing extensive damage and forcing the popular pizza joint to shut down indefinitely.
At around 8:38 a.m., a white truck crashed through the front wall of the building, according to Cmdr. Greg Pierce of the Arroyo Grande Police Department.
The collision caused structural damage to the restaurant located in the Village at the corner of W. Branch Street and Wesley Street, Kelly Stevens, the owner of Palo Mesa Pizza, told The Tribune.
Stevens said she did know how the crash happened but said no one inside the restaurant at 150 W. Branch St. was injured.
“We are very grateful no one was hurt,” she said in an email. “We are thankful to the community for all of their support and prayers.”
Pierce said police are still investigating the cause of the crash, but drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor at this time.
Stevens said Palo Mesa’s Arroyo Grande location will remain closed for the time being as the damage is assessed. She did know when it will be back open and operating again.
According to a photo she shared with The Tribune, the truck smashed through a portion of the front wall and window, plowing through shrubbery and chairs.
Stevens said Palo Mesa Pizza’s four other locations across the county are open and still taking orders.
