Multi-vehicle crash on Hwy. 101 injures 3, blocks traffic near Pismo Beach

A four-car crash on Highway 101 near Pismo Beach injured three people and brought traffic to a crawl on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s Traffic Incident Information Page, four vehicles — a Ram truck towing a flatbed car trailer, a white Lexus, a white minivan and a gray Volkswagen Jetta — were involved in a crash in the southbound lanes of the highway south of the Price Street off-ramp at around 2:53 p.m.

Multiple emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, including an ambulance and a trio of tow trucks, according to the CHP page.

It’s unclear if any of the injured people were taken to the hospital, but no extrications were required, according to emergency radio traffic.

Meanwhile, traffic on the southbound side of Highway 101 backed up as far as Avila Beach Drive as the collision blocked one of the lanes surrounding the crash.

Though the scene of the initial accident near Pismo Beach was cleared by tow trucks, traffic continued to be congested as far north as Los Osos Valley Road as late as 5 p.m.
