New rain, wind advisories issued for SLO County as another storm rolls in
Multiple weather advisories were issued for San Luis Obispo County on Friday as the region prepares for yet another storm.
SLO County Public Health shared a rain advisory notice on social media, advising the public to avoid contact with ocean water during and 72 hours after periods of significant rain.
Rain advisories are typically issued during heavy rainstorms when stormwater runoff could result in elevated bacteria levels in water, according to the health agency.
The advisory comes alongside a wind advisory and beach hazards statement ahead of another rainy weekend in SLO County, with precipitation likely to continue through to next week, according to the National Weather Service.
SLO County forecasts predict rain, wind through weekend
SLO County beaches are likely to see continued rain and wind throughout the weekend, according to the Weather Service’s 7-day forecast.
The agency projected 20- to 30-mph winds with gusts up to 45 mph along the coastline.
Rain was expected Friday evening and overnight, with scattered showers likely to last through Monday night. Tuesday showed a 40% chance of rain, tapering off to a 20% chance on Wednesday and Thursday, the forecast said.
The National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement for SLO County beaches and other beaches down the California coast from Friday through Monday morning, with “dangerous rip currents” and minor coastal flooding expected.
The agency said significant damage was not likely, but the weather would elevate the risk of ocean drowning.
Additionally, the agency issued a wind advisory for the interior valleys of SLO County, including Shandon, Creston, the Carrizo Plain, the Caliente Range, the La Panza Range, and Santa Margarita Lake.
Winds of 20 to 30 mph were expected, with gusts up to 40 to 50 mph, the advisory said.
The agency warned that winds could knock down tree limbs and cause power outages. The likelihood of damage caused by fallen trees was also heightened due to wet soils, the advisory said.
The wind advisory was set to last from 8 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday. Drivers were encouraged to use extra caution.
Forecasts for SLO, Atascadero, Paso Robles, Morro Bay and the Five Cities area all showed rain expected through the weekend, with chances of precipitation tapering off through Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
SLO was projected to see a low temperature of 54 degrees Friday night with a high of 62 on Saturday, according to a Weather Service forecast. The low was expected to reach 48 degrees by Monday.
Paso Robles was set to see a high of 60 degrees and a low of 50 on Saturday, cooling off to a high of 57 and a low of 43 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a high of 61 degrees was forecast for Morro Bay on Saturday cooling to a low of 55. Sunday was expected to reach a high of 58 and a low of 51, the Weather Service predicted.
Pismo Beach was set to see similar temperatures, with a projected high of 63 and a low of 55 on Saturday, according to the Weather Service. Temperatures were expected to cool slightly on Sunday.
