San Luis Obispo County drivers are getting a little holiday treat at the pump this season.

The average price of a gallon of gas in the county dropped to $4.267 as of Wednesday — the lowest point since May 2021, according to GasBuddy.com.

The news comes as analysts predict prices will fall across the country, potentially hitting their lowest national average since 2020.

“Christmas is often when gas prices settle near the lowest levels of the year, and 2025 is no exception,” GasBuddy head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan said in a news release. “Refinery maintenance has wrapped up, supplies are rising and winter demand is much lower than in summer — all of which help keep a lid on prices.”

De Haan said the relief at the pump may even extend into next year — though that’s always subject to change based on location.

In San Luis Obispo County, there’s another boon alongside the lower-than-usual gas prices.

The region, for once, is not home to the most expensive gas in the country — or even among the top five.

Among the nation’s metropolitan statistical areas, SLO County actually ranked No. 10 in the country, with communities like San Diego ($4.502), Los Angeles ($4.478), Napa ($4.406), Orange County ($4.373) and Ventura ($4.359) all posting averages well above the local price.
