SLO County home destroyed after fire reignites overnight

A previously extinguished house fire reignited early Friday morning, fully engulfing the home and causing minor damage to neighboring houses.

A fire was initially reported at a home on Fairview Avenue in Morro Bay around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Authorities extinguished the fire within about 30 minutes, The Tribune previously reported. An elderly woman and a dog were in the home during the first call.

Authorities left that afternoon. Morro Bay Fire Department chief Daniel McCrain reported at the time that the home was uninhabitable due to smoke and fire damage.

However, the fire reignited at around 2 a.m. Friday, McCrain said. The home was fully engulfed in flames when authorities arrived on scene.

Crews focused their attention on sheltering the homes on either side of the fire, McCrain told The Tribune. The neighboring homes sustained some damage to windows and paint, and one home suffered damage to an exterior greenhouse.

McCrain reported the cause of both blazes was still under investigation Friday afternoon.

No injuries were reported from the second fire. A woman and a man were displaced from the home as a result of the initial fire, and one dog was rescued.
