Vehicle crashes into SLO fire hydrant, sending geyser of water into the sky

A vehicle struck a fire hydrant outside the San Luis Obispo DMV on Thursday afternoon — sending a geyser of water several feet into the sky.

The driver crashed into the fire hydrant just before 11 a.m. off Higuera Street, then fled the scene, according to San Luis Obispo Police Department spokesperson Christine Wallace.

The burst hydrant sprayed water into the air like a fountain, before pooling in the street.

The Police Department is still investigating who caused the crash.

The San Luis Obispo City Department was on its way to fix the fire hydrant as of 11:20 a.m., she said.
