Ready to put on your favorite costume and party for Halloween? You may want to think twice before getting too unruly.

Fines related to Halloween partying will double over the next two weekends, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said.

The two “safety enhancement zones,” which are periods of time where party-related fines will double, will take place from midnight on Friday through 7 a.m. Monday and again from midnight Oct. 30 to 7 a.m. on Nov. 3, the agency said.

The zones apply to the entire city, not just certain neighborhoods, the agency said.

Fines for noise, unruly gatherings, open container and public urination will double and range from $700 to $1,000, the agency said.

Downtown SLO will also be providing portable toilets in that corridor, the agency said.

Arrests and fines for driving under the influence, being drunk in public and being a minor in possession of alcohol will also be issued. Minors in possession of alcohol may also risk losing their driver’s license, the agency said.

The police department’s social media post included an inflatable unicorn holding a sign that read, “don’t spend Halloween in jail,” and the hashtags “#becool,” “#useatoilet” and “#pipedown.”

More information, including party registration, can be found at respectSLO.com.
