Witches and warlocks to hold 13th annual paddle in Morro Bay. Here’s how to join
San Luis Obispo County witches and warlocks will swoop into Morro Bay on Saturday for the 13th annual Witches and Warlocks Paddle.
“I love seeing the smile on everyone’s faces, whether they’re in the water or they’re watching from the shore,” event co-founder Annette Ausseresses told The Tribune. “It’s just so fun, people just light up.”
The Witches and Warlocks Paddle starts at noon at Coleman Park on Saturday. The coven will then paddle south down the Embarcadero, and people can join at any point along the route, she said.
The event began 13 years ago, when Ausseresses and her friends dressed up as witches and went paddle boarding to celebrate a few birthdays that landed near Halloween. The event has grown ever since.
Last year, more than 600 people wearing witches hats and warlock cloaks filled the bay for the event. People took to the water on paddle boards, in kayaks and canoes and even in dragon boats.
Ausseresses said she’s also watched the idea of a Witches Paddle spread across the world, to places like Salt Lake City and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
She encouraged people to bring a flotation device and be mindful of local water safety rules.
