SLO County has a new Superior Court commissioner. Who is he?
Family law attorney Joshua Martin was selected to be the new San Luis Obispo Superior Court commissioner, the court announced in a Tuesday news release.
Superior Court commissioners hear matters including family law, small claims, evictions, child support, civil harassment, traffic and criminal matters. Martin has 22 years of legal experience in family law, civil litigation and criminal defense.
Presiding San Luis Obispo Superior Court Judge Rita Federman said in the release that Martin had a “long and distinguished career” in San Luis Obispo, noting that he became a certified family law specialist.
“He is well regarded by the bench and bar alike for his legal acumen, work ethic and calm, steady demeanor,” the release said. “His experience with complex family law matters will serve him well as a bench officer.”
Martin has represented clients in more than 70 bench trials and contested family hearings, the release said.
Martin earned his bachelor’s degree in English and history from Cal Poly Humboldt in 1999 and his law degree from University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2003, the release said.
The date Martin will be sworn in has not yet been scheduled.
