An argument over a parking spot in Pismo Beach escalated into an older white man calling a Black woman multiple racial and mysoginistic slurs in an exchange she posted in a now-viral video.

On Oct. 1, Instagram user and holistic products company owner Madinah Muhammad posted a pair of Instagram reels of a man threatening her and using racial slurs to get her to move out of the way of a parking spot next to her car at Pismo Coast Shopping Plaza.

In the video, the man, who is wearing a “Pipefitters for Trump” hat, demands Muhammad close her door so that another car can park in the partially shaded spot next to her.

When she refuses and suggests the driver use any of the other open spots in the lot, the man unleashes a string of slurs, including the N-word.

Muhammad’s post begins with the man walking up to her after telling the driver of the other car, a silver SUV, that he’ll get Muhammad to close her open driver’s side door so the SUV can pull into the spot.

Other shaded parking spots are clearly visible in the video, including one directly opposite the one the SUV was looking to pull into.

“I’m letting you know that I’m recording, and I’m letting you know if you touch my car or my property, I will report you,” Muhammad says on the video as the man approaches her car.

He replies by calling her a “stupid b----“ and asks her why she’s holding up two parking spots.

“Call the f---ing cops!” the man says. “Call ‘em right now, cause I’m gonna shut that door.”

He then accuses her of being homeless, pointing to things she was rearranging in her car.

In the video, Muhammad attempts to tell the man that she is traveling and not homeless, causing the man to storm off toward his own vehicle.

“You’re nothing more than a f---ing c---, a f---ing homeless f---ing c---,” the man says in a tirade, before adding, “You know what her problem is? She’s a f---ing n-----, she thinks she can get away with it.”

In a second Instagram reel, the confrontation continues with the man giving her the middle finger and leaving for his car, once again calling Muhammad the N-word.

The video then shows Muhammad briefly speaking with the driver of the SUV, who again asks her to move.

“I understand, but you know, you can literally loop, make a right and there’s shade right there,” Muhammad tells the SUV driver. “Maybe if you were kinder, I would have, but I’m not obligated.”

As the SUV moves on after temporarily blocking traffic, she wishes the driver peace and love.

Afterward, the video shows the man who accosted Muhammad pulling his black Dodge pickup into another spot next to Muhammad’s car, continuing to flip her off and then moving to block her from reversing out of her parking spot.

Eventually, she is able to drive away without further incident.

Pismo Beach city manager issues brief comment on incident

The two videos gained a total of around 60,000 likes on Instagram alone, with many commenters frustrated with the way Muhammad was treated.

The Tribune reached out to Muhammad but did not receive reply. The Tribune also reached out on social media to the man in the video to confirm his identity and for comment but did not receive a reply.

Pismo Beach city manager Jorge Garcia sent The Tribune the following statement in response to the video:

“Racism has no place in our community,” the statement read. “People of all races and backgrounds are welcome in Pismo Beach.”
