Two crashes on Highway 166 left drivers injured and lanes closed Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol shared on X that a two-vehicle crash was reported on Highway 166 just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The crash was the result of an attempt to pass near mile-post-marker 32, CHP said.

Injuries ranged from mild to moderate, with one person being airlifted from the scene, the post said.

Less than three hours later, a big rig overturned and caught fire on the same highway just after 8:30 p.m.

The crash resulted in damage to a guardrail and bridge and temporarily closed both lanes of traffic, the CHP said in a post on X. The crash was impacting the highway near Chimeneas Ranch Road.

As of Wednesday morning, the road was reopened for one-lane traffic control, according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page. CHP on social media warned drivers to expect delays.

The Tribune reached out to CHP for more information, but had not heard back as of Wednesday morning.
