Highway 101 lane closures to slow traffic in SLO County. Here’s when and where

Highway 101 lanes will temporarily close in San Luis Obispo County soon, according to Caltrans.

The lanes are being blocked off for upcoming maintenance work, including vegetation removal and sweeping, according to the California Department of Transportation.

Here’s what to know:

When and where will Highway 101 lanes be shut down?

The left northbound lane of Highway 101 will close from the top of the Cuesta Grade north of San Luis Obispo to Highway 58 near Santa Margarita from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, Caltrans said in a news release.

On Thursday, Sept. 4, the left southbound lane at the same stretch of Highway 101 will shut down from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Caltrans said.

Will maintenance work stall traffic?

Caltrans warned drivers that there could be more traffic than usual on Highway 101 while lane closures are underway.

“Travelers can expect delays not to exceed 20 minutes,” the road agency said.

The roadside work on Highway 101 will be completed by Caltrans’ San Luis Obispo maintenance team, the release said.
