No, that’s not a spam text — that’s actually a survey from the city of Arroyo Grande.

According to a news release from the city, a handful of Arroyo Grande residents may receive text messages from the public survey research platform FlashVote starting on Monday.

The city is working with FlashVote to gather input from community members to help inform its decisions, according to the release.

“We’re very excited to use the input collected in these surveys to inform decision-making at the city in ways that serve our residents better” city manager Matt Downing said in the release.

Signing up for the survey service takes less than a minute, and input on surveys — including personal or demographic information — is always kept anonymous, according to the release.

Residents can choose to receive email, text or phone calls on surveys when they sign up, and can be notified of new surveys, according to the release.

Survey participants will have 48 hours to complete the survey before voting closes, and upon completing the survey, participants will automatically receive a summary of the overall results and be able to see how their responses compare to the group, according to the release.

Residents can sign up for FlashVote ahead of time at the survey’s website, or can call 775-235-2240.
