2 injured in SLO County crash that sparked vehicle, vegetation fires

A traffic crash in northern San Luis Obispo County left several people injured and sparked a vehicle fire that then spread to the nearby vegetation Sunday evening.

According to its traffic incident page, CHP received a report of a crash involving a Toyota Prius and a Nissan Pathfinder at the intersection between Creston Road and Neal Spring Road at 6:20 p.m.

The Toyota was reported to be on fire, with a child pulled out from one vehicle at 6:22 p.m. At the same time, someone was reportedly trapped inside the Nissan, which was not on fire, according to the CHP page.

At 6:31 p.m., the fire started spreading to the nearby vegetation and Cal Fire units responded to the scene at 6:37 p.m., according to a post on X.

Forward progress of the fire was stopped at 6:39 p.m. and crews were working to help the victims exit their vehicles, Cal Fire said. One patient had major injuries and another had moderate injuries, the agency said.

A helicopter responded to the scene, and patients were transported at 7:03 p.m.

Crews would be on scene for approximately 30 minutes, Cal Fire reported at 7:03 p.m.
