The Atascadero community is rallying to raise money for a local barber who broke her back in three places after falling off a cliff.

Madelyn Rain, a barber at The Real McCoy Barbershop in Atascadero, recently suffered a major fall while hiking, fracturing three vertebrae and injuring her face.

Rain has worked at the shop for two years, according to her coworker Chantelle Albright.

According to Albright, Rain fell off a 30-foot cliff in Santa Cruz on Sunday, the day after her birthday. She was meant to return to Atascadero that afternoon, but instead ended up in the hospital at Stanford after her injury, Albright said.

Rain and Albright’s employeer, Jacklyn Hansen, have organized a GoFundMe.

The GoFundMe said Rain faces a long recovery and is not expected to return to work for at least a month, maybe longer.

“Madelyn isn’t just a skilled barber; she’s a kind, hardworking soul who brings warmth, laughter and precision to every cut,” the fundraiser said. “Her absence is deeply felt in the shop and by the many clients who adore her.”

The funds would help cover Rain’s medical bills, lost income while she cannot work and any other recovery expenses.

As of Tuesday evening, the GoFundMe was just above 40% of the way to its $13,000 goal, with $5,280 raised at the time.

“If you’re able to donate, every bit helps. And if not, please consider sharing this with others.”
