Hwy. 101 work brings 15 months of lane closures to SLO County. Here’s where

Road work

Caltrans has begun construction on a $32 million infrastructure project that will bring lane closures to Highway 101 in Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande and Nipomo for more than a year.

The good news is that the 15 months of work will occur in the overnight hours.

Construction will run from Sundays to Fridays between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. in both directions of the highway.

The infrastructure improvement project aims to improve safety and road conditions, by resurfacing roads, adding new guardrails, enhancing multi-use path access and fixing drainage systems, Caltrans said in a news release.

Though lane closures will only occur overnight, shoulder closures might stay in certain locations for extended periods, Caltrans said.

Construction will continue through August 2026.
