A series of spot fires surrounding a PG&E power pole caused a power outage in Paso Robles on Wednesday afternoon.

Three small spot fires ignited in the vegetation near a power pole at the intersection of Geneseo Road and Moon Valley Way at about 1:34 p.m., Cal Fire spokesperson Ryan Grebe said.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a group of nearby residents working to extinguish the flames, Grebe said.

Two of the fires burned a 5-by-5-foot plot of vegetation, while the other fire burned a 100-by-10-foot plot, Cal Fire said on X.

All fires were contained by 2:31 p.m.

PG&E shut down electricity in the area, and the California Highway Patrol temporarily closed Geneseo Road, according to the CHP traffic log.

As of 2:30 p.m., 713 PG&E customers in the area were without electricity, according to the PG&E power outage map.

Those customers lost power at 1:34 p.m., which was estimated to be restored by 5 p.m.
