A woman received major injuries after reportedly turning into oncoming traffic on a San Luis Obispo County highway east of Paso Robles on Friday night.

Around 8:52 p.m., a woman identified as 26-year-old Avery Lockliear of Paso Robles was driving east on Highway 46 approaching Jardine Road in the left turn lane, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.

At the same time, Juan Lopez, 65, also of Paso Robles, was driving west on Highway 46 toward Jardine Road, also in the left turning lane, CHP said in the release.

Failing to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic, Lockliear turned left and drove directly into Lopez’s path, crashing into his vehicle, the release said.

Lockliear was transported to Adventist Health Sierra Vista hospital for suspected major injuries, the release said.

CHP determined that neither drugs nor alcohol played a factor, but the crash was still pending further investigation by the Highway Patrol.
