CHP to stop traffic on Highway 101. Here’s when and where to expect delays in SLO County
Drivers should expect to hit some traffic while driving on Highway 101 in the Pismo Beach area, Caltrans said.
California Highway Patrol officers will temporarily stop traffic in select lanes while overhead utility lines are installed across the highway, according to the California Department of Transportation.
Here’s what to know:
Where will CHP stop Highway 101 traffic?
Drivers traveling in both directions of Highway 101 will experience traffic delays south of the Hinds Avenue overcrossing in Pismo Beach, Caltrans said in a news release.
When do traffic breaks start? How long will travel delays last?
CHP officers will conduct the periodic traffic breaks from 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, until 4 a.m. on Friday, March 21, according to Caltrans.
“Travelers will encounter delays not to exceed five minutes,” the road agency said.
Why do drivers have to stop?
CHP officers will pause Highway 101 traffic to allow Pacific Gas and Electric crews to install power lines across the highway in Pismo Beach, Caltrans said.
Pacific Gas and Electric crews will also replace a utility pole and transformer, according to the release.
Caltrans issued a permit to PG&E to complete the work, the state road agency said.
Caltrans: Slow down in road work zones
Caltrans called on drivers to be cautious while traveling through work zones on Highway 101.
“Our crews deserve to get home safely too,” Caltrans said.
