Seeing smoke in SLO County? It may be another Cal Fire controlled burn. What to know

Cal Fire will conduct a training burn in Arroyo Grande this week.

The agency warned residents near Corralitos Drive of the controlled training burn exercise, which was scheduled to occur for five days beginning March 17.

The exercise was authorized by the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District after eight months of training, according to a Cal Fire news release.

The “live-fire training” is meant to reinforce ground skills training in a fire, including simulated ignitions and responding with a firefighter down, the release said.

“We understand that some smoke may be present during the training, and residents in the immediate area are encouraged to keep doors and windows closed to minimize exposure,” the release said.

The agency said they will follow strict safety measures to avoid burn threats to nearby homes or property.
