Car crash slows traffic to a crawl on Highway 101 in Pismo Beach

A vehicle crash on Highway 101 blocked a lane and slowed traffic to a crawl through Pismo Beach on Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An SUV and a silver Ford pickup truck collided at about 8:41 a.m. in the northbound lane of Highway 101 near the Wadsworth Avenue off-ramp — causing the SUV to spin around and come to a rest facing the wrong way in the right lane, according to the CHP traffic log.

The vehicles were blocking both lanes of the highway as of 8:45 a.m.

A tow truck arrived on the scene, and the right lane had opened up by by 9:09 a.m., the CHP traffic log said.

Still, traffic was backed up through the Fourth Street off-ramp at 9:30 a.m., Caltrans traffic cameras showed.

CHP did not yet know if the collision caused injuries as of 9:30 a.m.
