19-year-old man killed by vehicle after attempting to cross Hwy. 101 on foot in SLO County

An unidentified 19-year-old man was killed while attempting to cross Highway 101 in north San Luis Obispo County late Sunday evening.

According to a news release from the California Highway Patrol, officers were dispatched to the northbound side of Highway 101 in the area of Highway 58 at 11:38 p.m. Sunday to respond to reports of a pedestrian walking in traffic lanes.

While responding to the call, another caller reported the pedestrian had crossed over to the southbound side of Highway 101 south of Highway 58, according to the release.

At 11:39 p.m., an involved party notified the CHP communications center that the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle, according to the release

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the 19-year-old man lying in the No. 2 lane with fatal injuries, according to the CHP release.

The man, whose name will not be released until next of kin are notified, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.

An investigation into the death is ongoing, and anyone with additional information should call the San Luis Obispo CHP office at 805-594-8700.
