Head’s up: Holiday traffic is slowing Highway 101 through SLO County, CHP warns

Traffic Alert

Seems plenty of holiday travelers were heading home at the end of the weekend — and it was slowing local traffic as of Sunday night.

California Highway Patrol warned drivers to avoid southbound Highway 101 in northern San Luis Obispo County in a post on X on Sunday night.

“From SR-46 (East) to Santa Barbara Road, the stop and go traffic has travelers frustrated,” the post read.

Caltrans QuickMap app showed traffic seemed to be running relatively smoothly throughout most of the county, however, though there were areas of slow down, particularly in North County.

Drivers can also call 1-800-427-ROAD for information on road closures.
