The Veteran’s Hall in Pismo Beach was filled Wednesday afternoon as the Pismo Beach Police Officer’s Association hosted its 41st annual Thanksgiving dinner.
The free event is one of the area’s longest-running Thanksgiving meals open to the public.
Members have been preparing the meal for several days and the hall’s kitchen was busy with volunteers serving turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing and all the trimmings.

It was one of several feasts held throughout the county Wednesday or scheduled for Thursday by various sponsors.
Pismo Beach police dispatcher Kimberly Rawls said at least 100 people put the dinner together, including students from San Luis Obispo High School, Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, Camp Fire volunteers, Cub Scouts, Nipomo 4H and citizen volunteers in addition to the police department.
California Men’s Colony ovens cooked 60 turkeys and an estimated 2,500-3,000 meals were expected to be served at the Veteran’s Hall or delivered.
“It’s a lot of work to get to this point, but it makes you feel so good when you see people in there eating and enjoying,” said Chris Trimble, operations commander for the Pismo Beach Police Department.
