Veterans Day in SLO County: Here’s a roundup of local events

Communities across San Luis Obispo County are gathering to honor military service members and veterans.

Local events planned for the Veterans Day holiday weekend range from concerts and ceremonies to barbecue lunches.

All events are open to the public and free to attend.

Here’s a roundup of some of the Veterans Day events taking place around the Central Coast:

Atascadero

The Atascadero Veterans Memorial Foundation will hold its 17th annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial.

Monday’s event will celebrate service members who have dedicated their lives to the fight for freedom and liberty, its website said.

More than a thousand people are expected to attend, organizers said.

The celebration will start with a military aircraft flyover by the Estrella Warbirds, followed by military ceremonies, live music, a barbecue and more.

A lot of 100 free lunches will be available for veterans. Other attendees can purchase meals for $8 to $15.

Pismo Beach

The Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Veterans Day event at the Pismo Beach Pier on Monday.

The event will take place at the first diamond of the Pier.

“We hope you can join us to pay tribute and give thanks to those who have served this great nation,” the Chamber of Commerce wrote in a post on social media.

San Luis Obispo

The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum and American Legion Post No. 66 will hold a Veterans Days ceremony and celebration on Monday.

The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum will offer free admission form 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to its website, a World War II exhibit on military efforts in the Pacific is currently on display.

At 10 a.m., the public is invited to a Veterans Day ceremony. It will be followed by a San Luis Obispo County Band performance and a free community barbecue lunch.

At 1 p.m., the museum will host a talk at the World War II exhibit.

The event will feature military vehicles, a craft table for children, a bounce house and games.

Free lunch tickets can be reserved ahead of time by calling 805-459-4015. The meal will feature a tri-tip sandwich, chips, potato salad, beans and dessert.
