A capsized sailboat was discovered off the coast of San Luis Obispo County this week — and the reason why it overturned was still something of a mystery.

Several local agencies responded to a report of an overturned sailboat off the coast of Cayucos on Thursday, according to a Facebook post from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

Those included Morro Bay Harbor Patrol, CHP and California State Parks, the post said.

Divers from the Sheriff’s Office were lowered into the water near the boat by helicopter. Search efforts continued on shore and in the air.

No victims or identifying information were found during the search, according to the Sheriff’s Office. It was unclear why the boat tipped over in the first place.

Investigation into the incident was being led by the U.S. Coast Guard, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Cipolla told The Tribune on Friday.
