Firefighters contain wind-driven vegetation fire along Highway 1 in SLO

A fire burned 58 acres along Highway 1 between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay on Saturday before firefighters were able to contain it.

The fire was first reported at 12:23 p.m., according to emergency response app PulsePoint.

It was located in the 3000 block of Gilardi Road, Cal Fire posted on X. The fire led to some evacuations in the area, though there was no potential threat to structures, according to emergency scanner traffic.

First responders initally said the fire had the potential to burn 150 acres total and was being driven by the wind, according to emergency scanner traffic.

It was fully contained by mid-afternoon.

Two additional water tankers and three more engines were requested to respond to the scene, according to the scanner.

Calfire later posted on X that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
