2-vehicle crash near Morro Bay sends driver to the hospital, police said

A crash near Morro Bay sent a woman to the hospital and two vehicles tumbling off the side of the road on Thursday afternoon, the Morro Bay Police Department said.

At about 2:58 p.m., a woman was driving a sedan northbound on South Bay Boulevard, Sgt. Grant Hasselbach told The Tribune.

When she turned left onto State Parks Road, she crossed the path of a pickup truck driving southbound on South Bay Boulevard, and the pickup truck struck the passenger side of her sedan.

The truck pushed the sedan into a nearby ravine then tumbled off the roadway itself. The truck was towing a trailer full of gravel, which made it heavier, Hasselbach said.

The driver of the sedan was injured and sent to the hospital, he said.

A similar collision occurred at the intersection last week, so the area “is on our radar,” Hasselbach said.
