San Luis Obispo’s newest bike park is ready for beginning cyclists to take a spin.

The city this week announced the opening of the first phase of its new pilot bike park at Laguna Lake Park, which includes a mountain bike loop trail and a kids pump track, according to the release.

The program was proposed earlier this year and is expected to “provide outdoor recreation opportunities with gradual features to help entry-level riders build and advance their off-road bike skills,” the release said.

The new park includes a half-mile dirt loop trail for beginners and intermediate levels with rollers, a rock garden and log obstacles. The kids pump track, meanwhile, is designed for riders under the age of 8, with small rollers and banked turns.

And don’t worry, more advanced riders: New features aimed at you will be coming to the park in its second phase. Those will include progressively more difficult jump lines for intermediate-to-advanced riders.

That is expected to be finished later in the fall, according to the release.
