A tree fell and crushed a parked car in San Luis Obispo on Thursday afternoon, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The tree tumbled onto the car at about 12:42 p.m. on Royal Way near Los Osos Valley Road, according to San Luis Obispo Police Department Sgt. Evan Stradley.

The car was empty when the tree fell, and no one was injured in the incident, according to Stradley.

The tree stretched into the westbound lane of the street, causing police to shut down Royal Way until the tree was removed, Stradley said.

A nearby apartment complex owned the tree and hired crews to move it, he said.

Police did not know why the tree fell.
