Emergency responders used the Jaws of Life to save two people trapped inside a Mini Cooper Friday, March 1, 2024.

A driver and passenger trapped in their vehicles following a traffic collision Friday morning had to be rescued using the Jaws of Life, police said.

According to a post on X from the San Luis Obispo Police Department, police were called to the area of Broad Street and Orcutt Road around 10:30 a.m. for a collision between a Mini Cooper and a Ram truck

One of the two vehicles involved lost control on the wet roads, spinning into oncoming traffic, according to the post.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pry the Mini Cooper’s crushed door open and extricate the driver and passenger, who were trapped inside with minor injuries, according to the post.

After the car’s passengers were removed, they were taken to a local hospital for treatment, the post said.
