Overturned woodchipper snarls Highway 101 traffic near San Luis Obispo

A traffic collision near San Luis Obispo plugged up southbound traffic on Highway 101 on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 2:18 p.m., a truck went off the roadway, leaving its trailer overturned in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near the South Higuera Street exit, according to the California Highway Patrol’s incident report page.

The trailer was later reported to be a woodchipper, according to the CHP page.

Southbound traffic was heavily congested as vehicles started to get around the trailer using the shoulder, according to emergency scanner traffic.

Traffic was slowed from just past the South Higuera Street exit to just before the Los Osos Valley Road ramp.

No injuries were reported as of around 2:30 p.m.
