If you were going to make a San Luis Obispo County version Monopoly, what would you put on the board?

That’s the question toy company Top Trumps USA is posing to local residents as it begins work on its new game, Monopoly: SLO CAL Edition.

The company announced its plans for the new board game at a news conference Wednesday.

“I think it shows how diverse the area is and how there’s something for everybody,” Top Trumps USA representative Hirshal Sukha said of the decision to make a Central Coast-centric version of the popular game. “I think that’s one thing that we do want in these games where adults play, kids play it — is there should be something for everybody.”

According to a news release, the SLO CAL Edition will “replace the perennial board game’s famous Atlantic City squares (from Boardwalk to Park Place) with representations of beloved SLO CAL historic landmarks, treasured natural destinations and local favorites.”

The game will also include customized Community Chest and Chance playing cards, “ensuring every detail of the game pays homage to the region,” according to the release.

The game makers are asking for help, however, in coming up with exactly what local landmarks should be featured on the game’s 22 squares of real estate.

Starting Thursday, the company opened up submissions for people to submit which locations they would like to see in the game.

“We’re really excited about this,” Sukha said during the press conference. “We want to make sure we do right by the community and get the right locations. Places that people love and they visit and that people who live here frequent.”

You can submit your suggestions by emailing SLO@toptrumps.com.

The submissions will be reviewed and tallied to determine which will make it onto the board.

Monopoly: SLO CAL Edition is expected to be released in spring 2024, and will be available in stores and online including CVS, Amazon and more.
