SLO County residents using public benefits have new portal. Here’s how to sign up
The San Luis Obispo County Department of Social Services is transitioning to a new, self-service web portal to help residents manage their public benefits.
BenefitsCal will replace MyBenefitsCalWIN as the new system for SLO County residents to manage their CalFresh, Medi-Cal and cash assistance government benefits, according to a news release from Social Services.
“BenefitsCal represents our ongoing commitment to removing barriers for San Luis Obispo County residents seeking to apply for and manage their benefits,” SLO County Department of Social Services deputy director Kevin Lucado said in a news release. “This new portal streamlines the application and renewal process, facilitates reporting of eligibility-affecting changes, and allows for easy document uploads.”
BenefitsCal will replace the old system beginning Monday, Oct. 30, the release said. MyBenefitsCalWIN will no longer be available as of Thursday at 5 p.m.
The eligibility computer system at Department of Social Services locations will be down on Friday as part of the system transfer, the release said.
Social Services staff will still be able to help residents in need of support services though wait times may be longer than usual due to the transition, the release said.
Next Monday at 8 a.m. is the first time SLO County residents can register for a new account at www.BenefitsCal.com by submitting their benefits application or linking their existing MyBenefitsCalWIN account to the new BenefitsCal account, the release said.
