Update: Wildfire in rural SLO County now at 200 acres, forward progress stopped
Update, 5 p.m.:
The wildfire burning along Avenales Ranch Road in rural San Luis Obispo County had burned about 200 acres by Thursday evening, according to U.S. Forest Service public affairs officer Andrew Madsen.
Forward progress on the fire had been stopped, Madsen added.
“Crews are working some hot corners and will remain on site mopping up overnight and thru end of shift tomorrow,” Madsen wrote in an email to The Tribune.

A wildfire burning on Los Padres National Forest land in rural San Luis Obispo County had scorched more than 100 acres as of Thursday afternoon.
The fire started just before 10:50 a.m. Thursday along Avenales Ranch Road just south of the town of Pozo, according to U.S. Forest Service public affairs officer Andrew Madsen.
By about 1 p.m., the fire had burned around 130 acres, according to emergency scanner traffic.
The fire was burning in a mountainous area between the La Panza and Garcia mountain ranges.
Federal and state firefighters were battling the blaze as of Thursday afternoon using air and ground resources, according to Madsen and emergency scanner traffic.
The cause of the fire was unclear as of early Thursday afternoon.
